THOUGHTS
“I decreased my meetings by 20% and that improved my productivity by 40%.”
Another meeting?
A quote from a friend, and a senior leader of an organization, during a conversation we had this week. A 40% improvement in productivity, just by reducing unnecessary meetings. Another thing this leader has done is to implement good meeting practices on their team so that they all are slowly getting better and becoming more productive.
Here are just a few things that have been proven to work - all you need to do is to choose to be better:
DO NOT call a meeting if a less disruptive method will work.
ONLY invite the few people that are absolutely necessary. If in doubt - invite fewer people, not more.
ALWAYS state the PURPOSE of the meeting.
ALWAYS state the DESIRED OUTCOME(S) of the meeting (never more than three!!)
SHORTEN the meeting time: 60-minute meetings should become 45-minute meetings, 45-minute meetings should become 30-minute meetings, and so on.
ALWAYS have a MEETING REVIEW at the end of the meeting to ensure everyone understands the decisions and action items.
ALWAYS start & end on time and better yet, end early.
Meet less often. Do meetings better. Become more productive. Improve results.
QUOTE
“Time assets vs. Time debts.
Time assets are choices that save you time in the future. Think: saying no to a meeting, automating a task, working on something that persists and compounds.
Time debts are choices that must be repaid and cost you time in the future. Think: saying yes to a meeting, doing sloppy work that will need to be revised, etc.
Time assets are an investment. Time debts are an expense.” - James Clear
